An advance warning: Many of you bread lovers may not like this bread!  That's OK!

Why, you might ask, am I even making it?  Because it is tasty, it is not available to buy anywhere else, it is a 100% whole grain bread, it is unique in that it is the only bread that I make that is actually steamed instead of baked.

So BBB is typically known as being an east coast thing: more specifically, the New England area. The history of the bread suggests that the folks out there made use of the things that were available in their cooking and baking. So that explains the combination of freshly milled wheat and rye flours, and freshly milled corn meal. The liquid is buttermilk so it has a slight tang to it. The sweetness is from molasses, lots of molasses. One could say this bread is molasses forward!  If you don’t like the flavor of molasses, I can pretty much guarantee you will not like this bread. 🙂

It has raisins in it too. I have come to learn that some folks love raisins in their baked good and some…not so much.

This bread will be good plain, but even better with a slab of salted butter on it. Try it toasted with butter too. Some folks like it with a bit of cream cheese on it. Of course the classic combo is with baked beans!  Let your taste buds be your guide.

This bread is steamed, not baked in a 28oz can and sells for $7. Only the true BBB lovers will see the value.
